Hey! I’m Alex. Creating thoughtful, eco-conscious spaces isn’t just a choice, it’s who I am. I work with clients to design healthy homes and support a community of designers who want to design with impact.
WELCOME!

The concept of sustainability is becoming more and more prevalent in many areas of our lives, including how we design and decorate our homes. Sustainable interior design aims to minimize environmental impact while creating healthy and beautiful living spaces. One of the most common questions I’m asked is whether sustainable interior design is more expensive than traditional design. The short answer is no.
At its core, sustainable interior design uses materials, techniques, and practices that reduce environmental impact and support our health and wellbeing. This includes natural and organic materials, energy-efficient appliances, non-toxic paints and finishes, and designing spaces that maximize natural light and ventilation.
Many people assume sustainable design costs more, but in reality, choosing sustainable materials often means choosing quality. While there may be a higher cost upfront, it can save you money in the long run.
For example, a solid wood piece of furniture will last much longer than an MDF piece that needs to be replaced. Solid wood can also be sanded and refinished instead of thrown away. Energy-efficient appliances may cost more initially, but they lead to long-term savings on utility bills.
Homes designed with sustainability in mind often also have better indoor air quality because of non-toxic materials. Natural lighting and ventilation reduce the need for artificial heating and cooling, which lowers energy use and your carbon footprint.
If you want to incorporate sustainable design into your home but are worried about cost, here are a few ways to get started:
Use what you already have. Refinishing or reupholstering furniture saves money, reduces waste, and adds character to your space.
Shop pre-loved. There are so many beautiful vintage and secondhand pieces that can be incorporated into your home.
Prioritize your investments. Focus on areas where sustainable choices make the biggest impact, such as lighting, insulation, or durable furniture made from sustainable materials.
Consult with an expert. Designers who specialize in sustainable practices can help you make informed decisions that align with your budget and environmental goals.
While sustainable interior design may involve higher costs upfront, with good planning and prioritization it can be both achievable and cost-effective. By investing wisely and embracing sustainable practices, you support a healthier environment while enjoying a thoughtfully designed home.
Sustainable interior design is not just a trend. It is a smart investment in the future of our planet and our wellbeing.

Incorporating sustainable design principles can even increase the value and marketability of a property. In today’s environmentally conscious market, homes with eco-friendly features often appeal to more buyers and tenants, potentially increasing resale or rental value.
